Akuamma Used in West Africa for hundreds of years, Akuamma seeds are a traditional medicine containing akuammine and pericine as well as a number of related minor alkaloids that work as analgesic in pain relief. Akuamma comes from a small tree that produces a large hard fruit. The seeds are then removed by hand and sun dried. Similar to Mitragynine in structure, the alkaloids bind to opioid receptors as potent μ-opioid agonists.
